This woman exhibits subcutaneous bleeding because of a vitamin K deficiency. The ability to bind Ca ions is necessary to activate 7 vitamin K dependent clotting factors that stop bleeding through clot formation. Other symptoms include nosebleeds, bleeding gums, blood in the urine and stool, or extremely heavy menstrual bleeding. In infants, intracranial hemorrhage can be life-threatening. The bruises on both arms and the chest are more visible in the larger images.
