Description: Comparison of an embedded corpus luteum (CL, left ovary) with a normal CL on the right. The ovulation papilla at the top of the right ovary normally can be palpated. When there is no distinct crown, the CL may be difficult to identify by palpation. The presence of a mature CL can be confirmed with ultrasonography and/or progesterone determination in the milk or plasma.
