Ovarian follicle with a large fluid-filled antrum. The oocyte is on a hillock of granulosa cells. The granulosa cells surrounding the antrum are surrounded by layers of theca interna and theca externa cells. Typically, this follicle would be about 2 or 3 mm in diameter, protruding slightly from and visible macroscopically on the surface (lower right) of the ovary.
