A vaginal stricture is a rare defect which can affect bitches. A stricture can prohibit natural mating or, in cases where artificial insemination of semen has occured, can lead to dystocia. This picture shows a bitch with a dorsoventral vaginal band which was discovered on digital examination prior to mating. The band is quite thin but continues in a cranial direction towards the cervix. Here an incision has been made in the wall of the vagina to expose the stricture to allow for correction.
