Large square and large round hay bales (NAL #3471) conserve labor by comparison with small bales (e.g., NAL #4872). However, as they may weigh 600 to 1,000 pounds, special equipment is needed to move large bales. This image illustrates equipment designed to move large round bales, in this instance to deposit the bale into a self feeder for cattle. The plastic wrap that protected the bale from moisture is removed after the bale is deposited in the feeder. Similar equipment is designed to move large bales from the field (NAL #4952) to centralized storage out of doors (NAL #4953) in regions with limited precipitation or to covered storage (NAL #4954) to avoid spoilage caused by moisture. Similar equipment is designed to manage silage NAL #4956, #4957 and #4958).
