Description: Here are large round bales of hay being stored outside. The forage pictured is a typical mixture of timothy, bluegrass, and some quackgrass. This is not an ideal method of storage since there will be considerable spoilage from the rain. Although this is a common storage practice, these type of bales are too often left outside, uncovered, year round, which makes it impossible to maintain high quality forage. These bales should be moved - note green regrowth of this hayfield.
