Description: Like chisel plows (NAL #4792), rippers such as this have teeth that penetrate to depths up to 18 inches, while mold board plows (NAL #4789 and 4791) typically cut furrows only 6 to 8 inches deep. Unlike mold board plows, neither rippers nor chisel plows turn the soil over, thereby leaving most residual vegetation on the surface. Consequently, the ripper in NAL #4795 was designed with a following disk to mix surface vegetation with the top 6 to 8 inches of soil. All plows and rippers facilitate penetration of rainfall and plant growth, especially in compacted soils. These types of equipment typified those used commercially in the US in 2005.
