Description: While forage wagons like these usually are towed behind a chopper (as in NAL #4780) to collect the hay or corn, they also may be fitted on a truck as shown on the far right side of this image. At a storage silo, powered by a tractor, a bottom apron moves the load toward at one end where rotating teeth (visible in the two middle wagons and the wagon on the left) deliver the forage into a hopper with an auger to a blower to deliver it into a tower silo. Alternatively, the auger may deposit the load into a bunker (horizontal) silo. The ensiled forage may be loaded into a feeder wagon and dropped (NAL #4782) by the wagon for fence line feeding of cattle. Alternatively, forages may be loaded into a grinder-mixer (NAL #4783) to grind hay and mix it with all of the other ration ingredients (even silage) to produce a total mixed ration (TMR). The TMR can be fed to cattle with a feed wagon (NAL #4782). Another mixer-grinder (NAL #4784) performs similar functions, but it can also deliver the TMR for fence line feeding to cattle.
