Stanley Brownell (Cornell University) collaborated with Enos Perry (NAL #617) of Rutgers University to organize cattle artificial breeding cooperatives in the United States. The earliest were in New Jersey in 1938, and others followed in New York State in 1939. The first calf from artificial insemination (AI) in the United States was born on the Richard Schomp farm near Stanton, NJ on February 15, 1939 (NAL #608). Robert H. Foote (Cornell University) recalled that Cornell Administrators, concerned about potential negative public reaction, delayed by about two years Prof. Brownell's requests to organize AI coops in NY State.
