Description: Typically within 12 hours before farrowing commences, the vulva becomes red and swollen, and has a discharge of clear mucus that was produced in the vagina. These are responses to elevated estrogen secretion that helps prepare the sow's reproductive tract for parturition, and also helps initiate lactation.
