Description: Piglets nursing a sow in a farrowing crate. The crate allows the sow to stand up and lie down, and also provides two safe locations for the piglets to lie. When they are not suckling, heat lamps overhead attract the piglets to 'creep' under partitions on either side of the sow. The lowest bar of one partition in this stall is visible at the upper left over these piglets. Systems that do not use farrowing crates suffer a higher risk that the sow will lie on and crush piglets.
