Description: This horse (left and right side of head shown) is referred to as a Medicine Hat or Medicine Hat Paint, characterized by a primarily white coat with a dark cap (war bonnet) at the poll. Horses with these markings were regarded as sacred by various Native Americans. Some thought the Medicine Hat horse provided spiritual protection in war and others believed it to be sacred and ceremonial as a buffalo horse. Medicine Hat Paints remain an object of interest to breeders and historians.
