Chicory (Cichorium intybus L.), a perennial herb of the Asteraceae family, has a long history and  utilization in many parts of the world. It is relatively new as a forage crop. Recently, forage chicory is being studied for its bioactive compounds, such as  tannins or sesquiterpene lactones, which can reduce nematode infection in animals.
