This image shows how large round bales of flax straw are used to create shelter from the wind on a ranch in southeastern Saskatchewan. The bales provide wind protection and will last several years as cattle will not find flax straw palatable and it will not decompose or break down as rapidly as other crop residues such as cereal grain straw or corn stover.
