Description: View through a hole cut on the ventral aspect of the abomasum (true gastric stomach) of a 35 kg sheep looking towards the opening of the omasal canal. The flow of digesta is from the omasum to the abomasum. Note the rugae folds on the internal surface of the abomasum and the "leaf-like" structures of the omasum that serve to increase surface area for water absorption.
